Seguridad nacional y geopolítica en América del Norte y Centroamérica

Abstract
Partiendo de la premisa que la seguridad nacional y la geopolítica se fundamentan en el contexto socio-histórico que vive cada Estado, el presente artículo busca identificar cuáles son las principales diferencias y similitudes entre los países de América del Norte y Centro América. De esta comparación, se establece que es evidente que existen divergencias en la región en cuanto al concepto y práctica de seguridad nacional, así como en las amenazas percibidas. Bajo este punto de vista, la seguridad internacional genera todo tipo de presiones hacia los Estados que tienen problemas para consolidar sus instituciones políticas, económicas y sociales en un ambiente democrático. Estas presiones, en el caso de Centro América, se ven multiplicadas por la influencia de Estados Unidos.
